Frequently Asked Questions & Top Tips!

We’re back open!

After over a year of lockdowns, our little shop at 7 Humber Street is back open and filled to the brim with beautiful bath bombs, specially selected shower products, and a wide variety of wax melts and candles.

Our brand ethos is to provide the perfect self-care experience, by handcrafting our store’s collection and ensuring all products are cruelty free and suitable for vegetarians and vegans, whilst supporting small businesses and shopping locally within the UK. We’ve created a boutique experience in-store, with floral walls and a bathtub water feature, and we use aromatherapy techniques to allow you a calming and serene shopping experience.  We are a small, family-run business, with only a tiny team that are expertly trained in cosmetics and are always at hand to help you with your shopping experience.

We receive a lot of questions about our products, and we’re here to give you some top tips to get the best out of your experience with using Light & Scent.

Q - Who is behind Light and Scent?

A - Light and Scent is a family business, owned by mother-daughter duo Christine and Jade. When you pop in store, you’re likely to see Jade behind the counter ready to greet you, her sister Claire who manages the online store, or Lucy, who manages our shop over some of the week, and runs our social media and blog.

Q - Are your products all cruelty free and vegan?

A - We only purchase from suppliers and use ingredients that are 100% cruelty free and ethically sourced. Our products are almost all vegan, but are entirely vegetarian. Some products contain lactose or honey, which will be clearly labelled online - please ask a member of staff in-store if you have any dermatological concerns, or you’re vegan.

Q - Do you make your products?

A - We hand select all of the products we choose to stock in store, and they are all handmade in the UK with the exception of our Yankee Candle display. We make our bath dust in-store, and collaborate with small businesses within the UK for all our stock to continue our ethos of shopping and supporting local.

Q - How do I use bath bombs? Are they safe for children or sensitive skin?

A - The best way to use bath bombs is to run a warm bath, pop in, and then put the bath bomb in the water. This way, the essential oils and butters can diffuse into your skin and you’ll reap the rewards of the luxurious ingredients. Bath bombs are safe for children, and for sensitive skin, though we recommend bombs with gentle ingredients like rose, lavender, and lots of cocoa butters to soften and soothe the skin.

Q - Why are your products in plastic?

A - Some of our products are displayed in plastic. This prevents contamination with germs from people touching the products, it keeps them fresh and fizzier for longer, and prevents damage to the products. It means environmentally, we are doing less damage, as when products arrive broken they need to be replaced - meaning greater production and transport requirements, and therefore a worse environmental impact. We sell plenty of plastic free products that are formulated to withstand damage and remain fresh until contact with water. All of the cardboard and paper with our products is recyclable and made from recycled materials.

Q - What are your opening hours? Are you dog-friendly?

A - We’re open 7 days a week. As we have a small staff, our opening hours can vary very occasionally, and this will be updated on our social media. We love dogs, so please bring your pooches in to see us! Our usual opening hours are:

Monday - 10-2

Tuesday - 10-2

Wednesday - 10-4

Thursday - 10-4

Friday - 10-4

Q - Do you have a loyalty scheme?

A - We do! Pop in store and ask for a loyalty card, and when you earn 6 stamps you’ll receive a free bath bomb of your choice!

Q - I don’t have a bath. What do you have for me?

A - We have a full collection of shower products: soaps, solid shower gels, shower mixers, scrubs, smoothies, and jellies. We have an extensive range of candles and wax melts, tailored for different aromatherapy experiences.

Q - Where can I contact you?

A - We’re on all social media platforms: Instagram, @lightandscents, and Light and Scent LTD on Facebook. Our email is hello@lightandscent.co.uk. We can’t wait to hear from you!
